Sharjah24: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority (SBA), represented by Sharjah Sports Channel, in cooperation with the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, has announced the opening of registration for the second edition of the Sir Bu Nair 60ft Dhow Sailing Race, scheduled for 10 October, with prizes totalling approximately AED 3 million.

The organising committee invites all captains and dhow owners wishing to participate to register via the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club website no later than October 1st.

Organisers are scheduled to hold a press conference later to discuss the details of the race, which covers 25 nautical miles, starting in Al Hamriya and finishing in Al Heera, Sharjah, and to reveal the key preparations and arrangements for the second edition of the event. The race is accompanied by a diverse programme of events and activities for the public, enriching attendees' experience and creating an atmosphere of fun and excitement, while also highlighting the authentic Emirati maritime heritage.

Tradition that reflects deep connection to history

The competitions take place in a traditional maritime setting that embodies the authenticity of Emirati maritime heritage and reflects the deep connection of the people of the UAE to their forebears' history. A highly anticipated competition brings together a select group of local dhow owners and captains.

The second edition of the Sir Bu Nair Dhow Race follows the success of last year’s inaugural edition, which saw wide participation and remarkable organisational success. The competitive atmosphere evoked an important aspect of our ancestors’ lives and the associated sailing skills, contributing to the promotion of traditional maritime sports and the preservation of this authentic heritage.
