Sharjah 24: Sharjah Holy Quran Radio and TV, part of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, continues to grow its audio library of Quranic recitations, recruiting and recording recitations and complete Quran readings from a select group of reciters both inside and outside the UAE. The library now holds recitations from more than 180 reciters, spanning a wide range of recitation styles and schools.

New additions to the library

The library recently added new complete Quran recitations from several reciters, including Haitham Al Dakhin, Saleh Al Ansari, Mohammed Yahya Taher, Mohammed Al Ghayathin and Ahmed Al Abrash, alongside exclusive recordings from Ezzedine Al Awwami, Mohammed Mustafa, Abdul Hakim Al Safi and Ali Salah Omar. The station has also brought in special recordings and recitations sourced from within the UAE and from several countries around the world, adding to a library that already features a roster of well-known reciters.

Listening to the audience

As part of efforts to involve the public in shaping its content, the radio and TV station ran a survey across its social media accounts asking followers which reciters they most preferred to listen to, with the aim of understanding audience interests and using them to help develop its Quranic programming.

The results showed strong preference for several reciters, most notably Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, Saleh Bukhatir, Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, Maher Al Muaiqly, Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary, Hazza Al Balushi, Nasser Al Qatami and Mishary Rashid Alafasy. These results align with the station's existing content, which already features and broadcasts recitations from these reciters, reflecting its commitment to engaging with its audience and striking a balance between the diversity of reciters and the recitations that draw the most listener interest.

Director's comments

Khalifa Hassan Khalaf, Director of Sharjah Holy Quran Radio and TV, said the survey stems from the importance of listening directly to the audience and understanding their preferences. He noted that developing Quranic content isn't limited to enriching the library with recitations and recordings but also involves understanding what listeners and viewers prefer and using that insight to shape programming.

He added that listening to audience feedback is one of the pillars of the channel's media work, strengthening its ability to deliver Quranic content that combines quality recitation, a diversity of voices, and responsiveness to followers' interests — in keeping with Sharjah's mission to serve the Holy Quran, cement its presence in society, and bring it to audiences in the best possible way.
