Sharjah24: The Sharjah Social Security Fund (SSSF) hosted an awareness workshop on Law No. (5) of 2018 relating to social security in the Emirate of Sharjah. The event, held at the House of Wisdom, gathered representatives from various government departments as part of the Fund’s ongoing efforts to educate employees about the benefits, rights, and obligations outlined in the law.

Promoting insurance awareness and social stability

The workshop demonstrates the Fund’s commitment to increasing insurance awareness among employees and government entities. It highlighted the importance of the social security system in maintaining social and economic stability for families and securing a dignified future for insured individuals after retirement. This initiative aligns with the directives of the wise leadership to establish a comprehensive social welfare system for citizens throughout the Emirate.

Comprehensive overview of the law

During the session, staff members from the Entitlements and Contributions Departments at the Fund delivered a comprehensive overview of the key elements of the law. The presentation familiarised participants with the concept of social security, the categories covered by the system, and the mechanisms of contributions and deductions. It also offered an in-depth explanation of the insurance benefits available, including retirement pensions, end-of-service gratuities, grants, and compensations. The workshop further clarified the responsibilities of employers in enforcing the law and the procedures necessary to ensure that all employees are properly included within the system, thereby providing fair and sustainable protection for them and their families.

Interactive discussions and case clarifications

The workshop featured open discussions between representatives of participating government departments and the Fund’s team. Various inquiries were addressed regarding exceptional employee cases, the conditions for combining pensions and salaries, and the procedures for disbursing benefits in cases of death or disability. The Fund also reviewed the mechanisms for monitoring monthly contributions and its supervisory role in ensuring compliance with the law.

Strategic vision and leadership commitment

His Excellency Mohammed Obaid Al Shamsi, Director General of the Sharjah Social Security Fund, affirmed that organising such workshops is part of the Fund’s strategy to enhance legal and practical understanding of the social security law and to simplify its procedures for both employees and employers. He emphasised that the Fund is committed to ensuring all stakeholders are fully aware of their rights and responsibilities, thereby facilitating the effective and efficient implementation of the law.

Supporting the vision of Sharjah’s Ruler

Mohammed Al Shamsi stated that Law No. (5) of 2018 reflects the vision of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to establish a strong and sustainable social protection system built on justice and security for every citizen. He also noted that the Fund continues to promote awareness both institutionally and within the community to enhance the law’s role in supporting development and assuring Emirati families.

Ongoing awareness programmes across the Emirate

He further explained that the Fund continues to run awareness programmes and introductory sessions across the cities and regions of Sharjah, aligned with its mission to promote social stability and ensure citizens participate in a safe and supportive work environment that safeguards their rights. Mohammed Al Shamsi concluded by emphasising that collaboration with government entities and private institutions is essential to achieving the Fund’s objectives, noting that these workshops aim not only to explain the provisions of the law but also to cultivate a lasting institutional culture that increases insurance awareness throughout society.
