The session covered several key topics, including the proper use of personal protective equipment, the necessity of wearing safety helmets, protective footwear, and harnesses when working at heights to minimise potential risks. Participants were also trained on securing equipment and structures, inspecting ladders and cranes before use, and ensuring all equipment is correctly fastened to prevent accidents caused by slipping or falling.
The workshop further addressed emergency procedures, offering hands-on training on safe evacuation in critical situations and how to handle adverse weather conditions, such as strong winds and heavy rainfall, which can impact work progress and increase risks. Experts also introduced global safety best practices in construction, aiming to create a safer and more sustainable work environment.
This initiative is part of a series of regular awareness activities conducted by SDPW to ensure compliance with top safety standards in construction projects, protecting workers' health and well-being while improving work quality and efficiency.
The session was led by SDPW’s branch management engineers, who reaffirmed that ensuring a secure working environment is a top priority. They emphasised that such initiatives play a crucial role in reducing workplace incidents and fostering a culture of safety at construction sites, ultimately enhancing project execution and quality.
The Kalba Club for People of Determination is one of SDPW’s key projects, reflecting the government’s dedication to providing an ideal environment that meets the needs of people of determination according to the highest engineering and construction standards. In line with this vision, the directorate remains committed to implementing strict safety measures at every stage of project execution, from planning to completion.
The workshop concluded with the distribution of safety manuals containing essential occupational safety guidelines, along with practical demonstrations on applying preventive measures at the worksite. Supervisors and workers praised the workshop for equipping them with valuable knowledge and skills to protect themselves and their colleagues. SDPW reaffirmed its commitment to continuing similar awareness programmes across various projects to reinforce a culture of safety and ensure a secure and sustainable work environment.
