SDPW completes school maintenance ahead of new academic year

Technical upgrades to enhance infrastructure
The Building Maintenance Department conducted a series of technical interventions, including repairs to air conditioning systems, restroom maintenance, upgrades to service facilities, and improvements to both internal and external lighting. In addition, the department ensured that electrical and plumbing systems across educational buildings meet the highest standards.

Smart monitoring and preventive systems
As part of its annual preventive strategy, SPW assessed the general condition of educational buildings and addressed technical concerns to avoid disruptions. The department has implemented a smart monitoring program to detect faults, manage periodic maintenance, and enable rapid response, thereby improving performance efficiency and extending the lifespan of facilities.

Commitment to long-term educational investment
Engineer Hadef Al Khedher, Director of the Building Maintenance Department, emphasised the department’s dedication to preparing educational institutions to welcome students each academic year. He stated that education remains a top priority, viewing it as a key investment in the future of the emirate and the UAE.

Inclusive maintenance across all educational institutions
This year’s maintenance efforts included facilities affiliated with universities, academies, nurseries, humanitarian service departments, and private schools, as directed by the Ruler of Sharjah. Special teams were deployed across different regions to ensure wide coverage.

Major projects and renovations
Highlighted projects include the renovation of Al Shaima and Sharjah Model Nurseries, development of the new Sharjah Education Academy headquarters, refurbishment of the University of Sharjah’s College of Fine Arts, and maintenance of faculty housing at the American University of Sharjah—all under the direct supervision of His Excellency Engineer Ali bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, Chairman of SDPW.

Sustained maintenance beyond the school year
Engineer Al Khedher stressed that these maintenance operations are not seasonal, but part of a broader strategic plan to sustain the quality of educational facilities year-round. A dedicated team operates 24/7 to address urgent needs, reflecting the department’s commitment to advancing the educational sector in alignment with the vision of Sharjah’s leadership.
