The visit aligns with the council’s commitment to overseeing government performance and ensuring the quality implementation of projects, in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who supports enhancing public service efficiency and community development.
During the visit, which took place yesterday at the department’s headquarters in Sharjah, committee members received a detailed briefing on ongoing and future construction projects, the Public Works’ strategic plan, and its role in supervising and ensuring the highest standards of quality and sustainability in project execution.
The delegation included H.E. Halima Humaid Al Owais, Vice Chairperson of the Council; H.E. Issa Abdul Rahim Al Zarouni, Chair of the Follow-up Committee; and H.E. Dr Hind Saleh Al Hajri, along with Sheikha Al Mazroui, Secretary of the Council. At the start of the meeting, they conveyed greetings from the Chairman of the Consultative Council, H.E. Dr Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, and its Secretary-General, H.E. Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan, to the head of the Department of Public Works and its team, commending their ongoing efforts in developing Sharjah’s infrastructure.
The committee emphasised its role in evaluating government entities’ performance and offering recommendations that enhance efficiency and excellence. They noted that the visit is part of their strategic plan to monitor service projects in Sharjah and ensure they meet community needs, contributing to improved quality of life and sustainable development.
H.E. Eng. Ali bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, Executive Council Member and Chairman of Department of Public Works, welcomed the council’s delegation and highlighted the importance of such visits in fostering collaboration between government entities. He acknowledged the council’s longstanding support of the department’s mission through valuable recommendations that have contributed to improving project execution.
As part of the meeting, Eng. Aisha Al Suwaidi from the Strategic Planning Centre at Public Works Department delivered a comprehensive presentation on the ddepartment’s projects, emphasising its central role in executing major infrastructure developments and expanding regular maintenance operations to ensure government facilities’ sustainability.
She outlined key new projects, including the construction and development of vital facilities such as sports clubs, Victoria Schools, universities, and administrative buildings, in addition to major sewage system upgrades aimed at enhancing efficiency across the emirate.
Eng. Al Suwaidi also highlighted the Public Works’ adoption of cutting-edge engineering technologies, with a strong focus on environmental sustainability and resource optimisation, in line with Sharjah’s developmental vision.
During discussions, committee members raised inquiries about Public Works’ efforts in infrastructure development and coordination with other entities to ensure project integration. They also explored ways to enhance the use of smart technologies in maintenance and construction, aiming for greater efficiency and longer-lasting public facilities. Additionally, they stressed the importance of expanding rehabilitation projects for older government buildings to preserve Sharjah’s architectural identity while meeting modern requirements.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the council delegation expressed their appreciation for SDPW’s efforts in delivering community-serving projects. They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the department’s work through recommendations and initiatives that enhance public services and further elevate the quality of life in Sharjah.
