Sharjah 24: Brigadier General Yousef Obaid Harmoul, Director of the Comprehensive Police Stations Department at the Sharjah Police General Command (SPGC), revealed that the campaign to monitor abandoned vehicles, which was launched at the beginning of January of this year, contributed significantly to reducing the rate of vehicle parts theft crimes by 52% compared to the first half of last year.
He pointed out that this campaign comes within the continuous efforts made by the Sharjah Police General Command to enhance community security and reduce negative phenomena, in cooperation with the strategic partner, Sharjah Municipality. It aims to reduce negative phenomena resulting from leaving vehicles for long periods and abandoning them, which are exploited by weak-willed people to commit crimes such as stealing vehicles completely or dismantling their parts, in addition to distorting the urban landscape.
He added that the procedure is carried out by monitoring these vehicles, and taking legal measures after issuing a warning to them, and giving them a grace period of 24 hours to remove the violating vehicles. He pointed out that the campaign is ongoing by a joint team between Sharjah Police and Sharjah Municipality, and implementing field and inspection tours to achieve the desired goals.
Brigadier General Yousef Obaid Harmoul called on community members to be aware of the risks resulting from leaving vehicles for long periods, stressing the importance of establishing a culture of shared responsibility, maintaining vehicle safety, and adhering to applicable laws and instructions. He pointed out that cooperation in reducing some negative behaviours contributes significantly to enhancing community security and enhancing the urban appearance of the city.
