Sharjah 24 – Sharjah Police (SP) on Thursday, 4-5-2026, received Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Chairman of the National Anti-Narcotics Authority, on a visit during which he was briefed in detail on the emirate’s multi-layered drug prevention and counter-narcotics system. Major General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, the Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, along with senior directors, officers, and officials of the force, welcomed him.

Sharjah's security architecture
The visit began with a tour of a specialist exhibition in which the General Command presented its most advanced surveillance, analysis, and digital tracking systems. The displays highlighted the technologies and methodologies deployed to detect drug-related offences and identify those involved—tools designed not merely to respond to crime but also to anticipate it.

Sheikh Zayed was also briefed on a range of prevention and community awareness initiatives that the force has developed to raise public understanding of the risks associated with narcotics and to strengthen societal resilience across all demographic groups.

Operations Centre and AI-Powered Tools The highlight of the visit was a tour of the Police Operations Centre, where Sheikh Zayed witnessed the real-time command infrastructure of the force. The centre operates 24/7, utilising artificial intelligence and modern data analytics to aid decision-making, manage security operations effectively and facilitate rapid, coordinated responses to emerging threats.

During a meeting with senior command, he was also shown a documentary overview of Sharjah Police's work in combating narcotics and controlled substances, with particular focus on significant operations conducted by the Directorate for Drug Prevention and Control. The briefing covered key performance indicators, enforcement results and the preventative and awareness-raising activities that underpin the force’s wider strategy.

A shared national responsibility
Closing the visit, Sheikh Zayed affirmed that the UAE remains committed to strengthening and continuously developing its national anti-narcotics framework — a commitment rooted in a comprehensive vision to protect society, safeguard its security and stability, and uphold quality of life for all its members. He described the country's approach as holistic and integrated, one that addresses the scourge of drugs from multiple angles and equips communities to confront the challenges it poses.

He commended Sharjah Police for the quality and sophistication of its work in this field, noting that the force's proactive, innovation-driven programmes, along with its targeted public awareness campaigns, have meaningfully contributed to raising societal consciousness about the dangers of drug use and deepening community partnerships in the fight against it. He said the initiative reflected the broader determination of the UAE's security institutions to protect individuals and preserve the achievements of national safety and stability.

Major General bin Amer described the visit as a demonstration of the value of partnership and coordination between local and federal bodies in tackling narcotics. He noted that the exchange of expertise and exposure to successful models play an important role in advancing the security apparatus and equipping it to keep pace with evolving criminal methods.

He added that confronting the drug threat demands a sustained, collaborative effort built on knowledge-sharing, mutual experience, and the deployment of the latest security technologies — all of which, he said, this visit had served to reinforce. He said it was an important opportunity to build on cooperation and coordinate efforts against a challenge that affects individuals, families and communities alike.
