Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Sports Club men's basketball team departed for Alexandria, Egypt, on Sunday evening to participate in the 36th Arab Basketball Championship, taking place from October 1 to 12.
Led by Mohammed Obaid Al Hossan, a board member and head of the Group Games Department, the delegation includes 25 members comprising technical, administrative, and medical staff, along with 14 players.
Sharjah Club, alongside Al Wahda and Al Bataeh, represents the UAE in the tournament hosted by Egypt's Al-Ittihad Alexandria Club. Notably, Sharjah is the only Emirati team to have previously won the championship, claiming the title in 2011.
The tournament features 16 teams from top Arab clubs divided into four groups. Sharjah is in Group 2, competing against Qatar's Al Arabi, Egypt's Smouha, and Kuwait's Kazma. The Sharks will start their matches against Smouha on October 2, followed by Al Arabi on October 3, and concluding the preliminary round against Kazma on October 4. The round of 16 will begin on October 7 at the Burj Al Arab Hall, with matchups determined by group standings.
