AQU launches the first ICD conference

Sharjah 24: Al Qasimia University (AQU), during a press conference, declared that all preparations have been completed for the launch of the first international conference on Digitisation (ICD), entitled: “Digitising Original Manuscripts: Reality and Hope”.
The university stressed the importance of the conference in preserving and exchanging manuscripts and adapting the latest modern technologies in preserving the manuscript as a very important scientific heritage, through the scientific conference sessions that are held in person and remotely under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and founder of Al Qasimia University.

Speaking at the press conference, which was attended by a group of media professionals and a number of the university staff, His Excellency Prof. Awwad Al Khalaf, Acting Director of Al Qasimia University praised the cooperation of media institutions and their role in highlighting the work of the conference and communicating its goals to society through the care of manuscripts, which are a rich asset of certain culture and inherited sciences.

During the conference, His Excellency Prof. Awwad Al Khalaf indicated that the conference will be held in an interactive integrated manner, by receiving a group of the most prominent scholars and experts specialised in the field of manuscripts digitisation at the university.

Regarding the importance of the conference and its role, His Excellency Prof. Awwad Al Khalaf pointed out that the university cooperated with a number of local and international institutions, including the Lisbon Academy of Sciences in Portugal, in which His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah has an honorary membership to exchange experiences in this field and move towards preserving manuscripts on scientific programmes. 


His Excellency Prof. Awwad Al Khalaf pointed out the importance of the conference as it enhances communication with the Islamic and Arab world, as well as with the Western world, to enhance joint cooperation, exchange and preserve manuscripts, which are exposed to obliteration and external factors.

His Excellency Prof. Awwad Al Khalaf stated that the conference is a wake-up call on the importance of concerted efforts to preserve manuscripts in light of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah's interest in manuscripts and his keenness to present to Al Qasimia University the Manuscripts House including more than two thousand manuscripts, stressing that the House digitized more than 80% of the manuscripts.

His Excellency Prof. Awwad Al Khalaf added that the conference will be held in four scientific sessions, in addition to the opening session and the closing session, moreover, the conference will hold scientific and professional events, the most important of which is a scientific workshop for students, participants and those interested in the investigation of Arabic manuscripts, and a scientific tour in the House of Islamic Manuscripts at the university.
