SAASST observes nova

Sharjah24: The Sharjah Optical Observatory team at the University of Sharjah managed to spot a nova known as (U Scorpii Nova), which was discovered during the previous period near the northern edge of the constellation Scorpius. It normally has a magnitude of 18, but reaches a magnitude of about 8 during outburst. On June 6, 2022, it attained its maximum intensity.

This star is approximately 64,000 light-years away and was predicted to outburst in 2020 AD, after its previous outburst on January 28, 2010.

The observing and analysis team comprised Prof. Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi, Professor of Astrophysics and Director of the University of Sharjah, Prof. Mashhour Al Waradat, Professor of Astrophysics, Department of Applied Physics and Astronomy at the University, and Prof. Muhammad Fadl Talafha, astronomical observer at the Sharjah Observatory.
