Sharjah24: The Sharjah Department of Public Works (SDPW) organised a specialised asset management workshop for employees of its Building Maintenance Department, aimed at developing their technical skills and improving the efficiency of maintenance operations in government buildings.

The workshop forms part of the department’s ongoing efforts to improve service quality and the operational performance of facilities. It attracted broad participation from maintenance engineers and featured practical presentations on maintenance best practices, fault analysis methods and measures to enhance the readiness of operational assets.

The workshop also focused on adopting modern technologies for maintenance management, in line with the emirate’s drive towards digital transformation and innovation in government services.

The “Buad” smart platform was a key focus of the workshop, particularly its advanced capabilities for real-time monitoring of government buildings through a unified system that integrates predictive maintenance and data analysis.

The platform enables faults to be detected before they occur, improving response efficiency and reducing operational costs. It also tracks energy consumption, measures carbon footprints and provides accurate indicators of asset health.

In addition, the platform offers a three-dimensional visual representation of buildings, making it easier to quickly identify the locations of faults.

The department currently oversees the operation of 430 government buildings, which contain 65,000 assets and are managed by specialised teams comprising 65 technicians and inspectors.

The department said the workshop is part of a series of training programmes designed to equip maintenance teams with the skills to use smart systems and to apply international best practices in asset management, thereby supporting the sustainability of government buildings and enhancing quality of life within them.

The department recently obtained ISO 41001:2018 certification for its facility management system following the required assessment and accreditation. It is currently working towards meeting the requirements for ISO 55001:2024 certification of its asset management system.
