The SDPW’s session covered the latest digital threats and cyberattack methods, as well as techniques for detecting and addressing these threats. It also highlighted best practices for safeguarding government systems, networks, and data.
The Sharjah Department of Public Works hosted this specialised workshop as part of its efforts to enhance staff readiness and security awareness regarding the use of digital systems and the protection of government data. The initiative aimed to develop employee skills, keep pace with rapid technological advancements, and strengthen the department's capacity for proactive responses to cyber threats.
The workshop was well-attended by employees from various departments and sections. The Sharjah Cybersecurity Centre team focused on key topics, including the fundamentals of digital security in the workplace, the latest cyber threats targeting organisations, common cyberattack methods and how to detect and handle them, and a review of global best practices for protecting systems, networks, and sensitive data.
In addition, the workshop addressed the importance of fostering a security-conscious culture among employees, recognising them as the first line of defence against cyber threats. Detailed explanations were provided on handling suspicious emails, managing passwords, utilising multi-factor authentication, and securing mobile devices. Moreover, the session outlined the necessary procedures to follow upon detecting any anomalous activity within systems or email accounts.
Real-world examples of cyberattacks targeting organisations globally were reviewed, highlighting key lessons learned and discussing how government entities in Sharjah can strengthen their preventive capabilities to mitigate such risks. Practical scenarios and hands-on exercises were also conducted, enabling employees to test their threat analysis skills and practice making timely, informed decisions.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants expressed their appreciation for the valuable information shared by the Center’s team. They emphasised that such training programmes enhance employee readiness and skill sets regarding system and data protection, while supporting the Department’s efforts to advance a secure and effective digital transformation.
