A multidisciplinary team of 15 engineers participated in the workshop, sharing a successful practical experience that embodied the spirit of innovation and collaboration. Participants outlined the implementation stages of a hypothetical "Sustainable Smart Park" project—an interactive initiative that combined creative planning, teamwork, and healthy competition. The participants were divided into three engineering groups, each competing to design and build a scale model of a sustainable smart park for the Department’s headquarters, with a focus on sustainability, resource efficiency, and the integration of modern technologies in green space management.
The programme featured a detailed presentation of the workflow, covering everything from the initial project concept and the identification of technical requirements to the development of an implementation plan and the final presentation of a model demonstrating the engineering teams' ability to transform ideas into viable, actionable projects. The workshop also featured extensive discussions on best practices for smart landscape design, the use of modern irrigation systems, and the implementation of renewable energy solutions, alongside a review of global experiences in developing sustainable green spaces.
SDPW emphasised that the celebration of World Engineers Day honours the vital role engineers play in developing the Emirate’s infrastructure, embedding sustainability principles, and enhancing quality of life. It noted that the success of government projects depends on the integration of efforts across multidisciplinary teams working with a unified spirit and a shared vision. The Department added that the workshop is a practical demonstration of the importance of teamwork in achieving high-quality outcomes, highlighting the ability of national talent to innovate and deliver advanced engineering solutions.
The Department currently employs 81 male and 70 female engineers across a diverse range of disciplines—including civil, architectural, electrical, mechanical, sanitary, and environmental engineering, as well as project management—complemented by expertise in urban planning, design, and quality management. These professionals form the backbone of the Department’s projects, spanning vital sectors across the Emirate of Sharjah.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants expressed their appreciation for this inspiring initiative, which provided an opportunity to showcase their skills, exchange expertise, and work in integrated teams that mirror real-world project environments. They affirmed that such programmes foster a culture of innovation, develop professional skills, and support the advancement of engineering in the Emirate.
