15 coloured medals
In the junior women's competition, Kalba Women's Sports Club players made a strong presence on the mat, winning six gold medals through Nada Rashid Al Ghafri (under 40 kg), Sumaya Ahmed Al Barout (under 48 kg), Hour Yousef Al Marashdeh (under 57 kg), Aisha Hassan Al Mazrouei (under 52 kg), Salma Abdulrahman Al Tufan (under 57 kg), and Hessa Abdullah Al Zaabi (over 78 kg). Al Reem Abdullah Al Zaabi and Dana Ali Al Maamari also won two silver medals in the under 52 kg and under 48 kg weight categories, respectively. Meanwhile, Hiam Ali Al Zahmi won a bronze medal in the under 52 kg weight category, Sarah Jawhar Al Mazrouei won a silver medal in the under 63 kg weight category, and Aya Adnan Al Matroushi won a bronze medal in the over 70 kg weight category.
In the Cubs category, Sharjah Women's Sports Club players excelled, winning two gold medals through Amna Yousef Al Mazmi (under 36 kg) and Hour Waleed Ali (under 70 kg), along with a silver medal for Lalyazia Hamid Abdullah (under 44 kg) and a bronze medal for Lamira Ahmed Ibrahim (under 57 kg).
Thus, the Foundation's clubs won eight gold medals, four silver medals, and three bronze medals, for a remarkable total of 15 coloured medals. In the overall medal table, Kalba's junior girls took first place, while Sharjah's Cubs finished third.
Outstanding performance
Sharjah Women's Sports Club Judo Coach Lucy Jaddan expressed her pride in the team's players, saying, "four players from the club participated in the Abu Dhabi International Judo Championship and succeeded in putting in an outstanding performance. The players demonstrated great commitment and advanced technical level. Hoor Waleed Ali Al Shamsi stood out by achieving two consecutive decisive wins, confirming her promising potential, while Alyazia Hamid Abdullah Al Naqbi delivered a strong offensive performance, reflecting her high fighting spirit”.
Jaddan added “this championship was an important opportunity to conduct an initial assessment and identify strengths and areas that need development. I am proud of what the players have achieved and am confident that the future holds many more successes for them. I am honoured to be part of this journey."
High technical level
For her part, Ghania Siasi, the judo coach at Kalba Women's Sports Club, emphasised that the club's players' participation in the Abu Dhabi International Judo Championship was a unique experience by all standards. Siasi confirmed: "our players competed in tough competition and were able to reach the podium with distinction, reaching most of the final bouts and winning several medals. What pleased us was not only the results, but also the fighting spirit the players displayed and the clear improvement in their technical level.
Siasi added; “the opportunity to interact with players from different nationalities and clubs added significant value and allowed our girls to gain important experience that will be reflected in their future participation. This championship is a key milestone in evaluating performance and shaping the next phase. I am confident that the Kalba team is capable of achieving further successes, reaching higher levels, and representing the club and the UAE in the best possible way."
Raising the UAE flag
This successful participation reflects the Sharjah Women's Sports Foundation's commitment to developing judo and honing the skills of players of all age groups through integrated training programmes and quality camps that provide them with a professional and supportive environment. The achievements made at the Abu Dhabi International Championship confirm that the Foundation's teams are making steady progress toward enhancing the presence of Emirati women's sports locally and internationally, and building a generation of champions capable of competing and raising the UAE flag in the largest sporting events.
