Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work organised a ceremony at the Cultural Palace in Sharjah on Thursday, August 28, 2025, to honour 73 student volunteers from schools and universities. The recognition covered eight school students and 65 university students, acknowledging their voluntary contributions and service hours throughout the year.

This recognition serves as genuine appreciation of the students’ efforts in spreading the culture of volunteering and giving. It also aims to encourage younger generations to engage in community service, with honourees selected based on the number of voluntary hours they have they have completed, reflecting their commitment and dedication.

Achieving social benefit
During the event, Dr Jassim Mohammed Al Hammadi, Secretary-General of the Award, praised the efforts of student volunteers from various educational levels, noting their use of skills and energy to benefit others and generate social value. He emphasised that their pioneering initiatives strengthen the values of cooperation and solidarity, demonstrating the youth’s potential for positive change when given proper support.

Dr Al Hammadi added that the award embodies Sharjah’s approach to encouraging young people and appreciating their contributions. He highlighted the award as a platform for instilling initiative and motivating students to continue community service, while also commending the role of schools and universities in supporting and enabling students’ voluntary engagement.

Reflecting the award’s vision of instilling values
Suad Al Shamsi, Executive Director of the Award, stated that honouring this category reflects the award’s vision of embedding volunteer values among school and university students, who represent the future generation and bearers of the volunteer cause.

Al Shamsi further explained that involving students in extracurricular volunteer activities helps shape their personalities and increases their social awareness, ensuring the sustainability of the volunteer culture.

She also pointed out that the award works in coordination with many educational institutions to provide tailored programs and initiatives that channel young people’s energies into community projects. Al Shamsi affirmed that the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work continues to strengthen its role as a pioneering platform, highlighting young talents and encouraging them to be active participants in the volunteering system, thereby enhancing the UAE’s standing as a hub for voluntary and humanitarian work.
