Sharjah24: As part of the “The Year of Community 2025” initiative, the General Command of Sharjah Police, represented by the Department of Punitive and Correctional Institution, organised the 17th Family Forum. The forum aimed to strengthen family bonds, promote social cohesion, and support efforts toward inmate rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
Strengthening family and community ties
The forum was attended by Brigadier Abdullah Al Alei, Director of the Punitive and Correctional Institution Department, along with a number of specialised officers and 25 families of inmates. The event was held outside the institution’s premises in an open, social atmosphere that provided a space for direct family interaction—contributing to enhanced emotional support and stronger psychological well-being for inmates and their relatives.
Varied activities and rehabilitation showcase
The event featured a range of activities, including a children’s play area and interactive cultural competitions. A documentary video was also presented, highlighting the institution’s vocational rehabilitation programmes such as the Hope Theatre and Studio, blacksmithing, tailoring, agriculture, and other skills-based training. These initiatives are designed to help inmates acquire new capabilities that ease their positive reintegration into society after release.

Brigadier Al Alei stressed that the 17th Family Forum embodies the objectives of the “Community Year 2025” initiative, serving as a platform to boost family cohesion and improve the overall quality of life. He noted that such forums act as a genuine bridge to rebuild human relationships and enhance family stability for inmates.

He further explained that the forum falls within a comprehensive strategy aimed at creating a supportive rehabilitative environment that addresses inmates’ social, psychological, and professional needs—ultimately facilitating their positive reintegration into the community.

For their part, the families of inmates expressed their deep appreciation for the initiative. They affirmed that the forum had a noticeable impact on the psychological well-being of both inmates and their loved ones, offering a valuable opportunity for face-to-face interaction in a familial setting—reviving feelings of closeness and emotional connection.
