Sharjah24: Sharjah Police marked World Inmate Day, observed annually on 18 July, by organising a series of programmes and activities to enhance inmates' quality of life and support their rehabilitation.

The initiatives were organised by the Punitive and Correctional Institution Department, in collaboration with a number of government and community partners, as part of Sharjah Police's rehabilitation and reintegration programme.

Brigadier Abdullah Rashid Alai, Director of the Punitive and Correctional Institution Department, said the occasion reflects Sharjah Police's commitment to implementing best-practice rehabilitation through integrated programmes that prepare inmates for stable, productive lives after they complete their sentences.

Lieutenant Colonel Khalfan Salem bin Shuqwa, Director of the Educational and Rehabilitation Section, said the programmes are delivered through a specialised scientific approach that promotes positive values, behavioural reform and successful reintegration into society.

The activities included sports, religious, cultural and recreational programmes, highlighted by a friendly football match between inmates and former UAE national team players, as well as awareness lectures, cultural competitions and art workshops delivered by government and community partners to support inmates' psychological and social wellbeing.
