Sharjah 24: Recently, the Archives Department of Sharjah's Directorate of Public Works (SDPW) held a workshop called “Implementing a Unified Classification Plan.” The workshop focused on improving document organisation and preservation, providing participating staff and document management professionals with the skills and tools necessary to implement a standard classification system, ultimately enhancing efficiency and accessibility of information.
The workshop covered essential elements, such as the concept and significance of a unified classification for an organized database, as well as contemporary archiving techniques. Mira Ahmed, head of archives at SDPW, emphasised that a coherent classification plan reduces document retrieval time and improves administrative precision. The discussion included the challenges encountered by archiving teams, along with the presentation of practical models for system implementation.
The workshop highlighted the significance of enhancing staff awareness regarding classification and provided training in its practical application to improve productivity and efficiency. The workshop concluded with a dialogue session where participants exchanged their expertise and explored strategies for ongoing enhancement in archive management.
