Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Prevention and Safety Authority (SPSA), in partnership with the Centre for Continuing Education and Professional Development, at the University of Sharjah, has launched the fourth batch of the Professional Diploma in Occupational Safety, Health, and Business Continuity.
This programme aims to enhance preventive awareness within the community and foster a culture of safety across various workplaces. The diploma is aimed at 25 employees from different governmental entities in Sharjah, with the intention of qualifying them as specialists in the fields of occupational safety and health. This initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to improve employee safety and mitigate risks associated with unsafe working environments.

His Excellency Sheikh Engineer Khalid bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Prevention and Safety Authority (SPSA), remarked: “The Authority is dedicated to developing national competencies in occupational safety and health through the provision of specialised training programmes. Training and qualification are essential for promoting a safe work environment, which the Authority strives to achieve in collaboration with its partners at the University of Sharjah.”

He further stated: “Through this initiative, the Authority aims to empower government employees to act as safety ambassadors within their organisations, thereby contributing to a safe workplace and, in turn, a community free from risks.”

Dr. Asmaa Nasiri, Director of the Centre for Continuing Education and Professional Development, noted that the programme encompasses several key areas, including the fundamentals of public health, understanding health and safety systems, studying various hazards and safety protocols, such as working in confined spaces and at heights, and safety principles in high-risk chemical industries, among other subjects.

It is important to highlight that the Professional Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health aligns with the Emirate of Sharjah’s vision to promote a safe and sustainable work environment, achieving the highest safety standards for all members of the community.
