Sharjah24: The Sharjah Center for Learning Difficulties (SCLD) has suggested the need to improve collaboration among healthcare institutions, educational organizations, and universities to introduce a specialized mental health awareness program for students at the state level. This aims to coordinate efforts to enhance students' health and safety and promote mental well-being in the school environment.
This was part of the youth seminar organized by the centre in collaboration with the Federal Youth Authority. The conference focused on "The Impact of Mental Health on Students' Academic Achievement". It was attended by His Excellency Dr. Abdulaziz Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Sharjah Health Authority, Her Excellency Dr. Hanadi Al Suwaidi, Director of the Sharjah Centre for Learning Difficulties, as well as various experts, social and psychological specialists, and a group of students with learning difficulties along with their parents.
The episode was part of the centre's recent national awareness campaign on learning difficulties. It covered various topics, including the link between mental health and students' academic success, the key factors influencing academic performance, and how students' psychological well-being impacts their learning ability. Additionally, the episode offered scientific advice and strategies for students, parents, and the general public on preventing psychological disorders and providing psychological support to students.
Dr. Hanadi Al Suwaidi emphasized the importance of prioritizing the mental well-being of children and adolescents as a fundamental investment in society's future and sustainable development. This session was organized as part of the Sharjah Center for Learning Difficulties' commitment to supporting the state's initiatives in this area. The focus is improving students' mental health to boost their academic performance and overall quality of life. Dr Al Suwaidi stressed the need for collaboration between health and educational institutions to launch a comprehensive awareness program to enhance students' mental health and behavioural skills, providing them with guidance and support. Additionally, it is essential to improve the skills of mental health and social specialists in schools to identify challenges and potential causes of psychological disorders and learning difficulties. She expressed gratitude to the Federal Youth Authority and all experts and specialists for their contributions to the success of this youth session.
