The award is one of the 11 recent SAVW awards, which receives applications from November until December 31, 2023.
Al Asala Award for Best Volunteer Participation is given to elderly people who participate or contribute to volunteer projects, by achieving the highest volunteer hours.
Fatima Musa Al Beushi, Executive Director of SAVW, said that the award, bearing the name “Al Asala” (originality) whereas it has a clear indication of the importance of the elderly group in our lives and society. She added that the award targets the elderly group and encourages them to provide their best volunteer work, enhance community communication, and transfer their experience to the next generation. At the same time, the elderly benefit from the skills of the current generation in technical development, which enhances communication between the two generations in social integration.
Fatima Al Belushi explained that the award requires diverse and regular volunteer work throughout the year, with the participant achieving 100 volunteer hours during one year.
The evaluation criteria by the competent committee will include the number of contributions or volunteer hours equivalent to 80%, while 20% of the evaluation score is allocated to the diversity of contributions and creativity in implementation, and the winner will be chosen based on obtaining the highest number of contributions or volunteer hours among the competitors over the course of the year.
The Executive Director of the Award called on participants to submit applications on the specified date, and the last day for submission is December 31, noting that the award designated for elderly comes as an affirmation of the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work’s commitment to encouraging and honouring individuals who contribute their efforts to developing society and promoting the spirit of volunteer work.
