Sharjah 24: Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work (SAVW) organised an awareness workshop for male and female students of the University of Sharjah with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of volunteer work in improving society and developing the individual.

The workshop was presented by Sheikha Al Sarkal, participation and community awareness coordinator at SAVW, through “Teams” platform, and attended by 63 students from the University of Sharjah.

The awareness workshop reviewed basic concepts about volunteering, reviewing the different types of volunteering, and how students can benefit from volunteering types in developing their skills and building their CVs.

The workshop also addressed the benefits of volunteer work for the individual and society, and how it can positively impact the development of the communication and social interaction skills of its participants. 

Fatima Mousa Al Belushi, Executive Director of SAVW, praised the important role of volunteer work in developing the skills of young men and women and enhancing their communication with society. 

Fatima Mousa Al Belushi noted that SAVW is committed to supporting and encouraging young people to participate in volunteer work and raising awareness of its importance in building a bright future and a better society.

The workshop comes as part of SAVW efforts to raise awareness of the importance of volunteer work among university students, and reflects the award’s commitment to achieving sustainable development by raising awareness of social participation and community responsibility.

Fatima Mousa Al Belushi added that some public universities in the UAE are taking positive steps in counting volunteer hours as part of the graduation requirements, which enhances the role of students in improving society and encourages them to actively participate in volunteer work.
