Sharjah24: The Department of Municipalities Affairs (DMA) hosted a celebration of Emirati Women's Day today with the theme "Sharing for Tomorrow. This day is traditionally celebrated every year on August 28.
Employees from the department, as well as retired and distinguished women from Sharjah's several municipal governments, attended the event.
The department head, Dr Sulaiman bin Sarhan Al Zaabi, reaffirmed the importance of women in the UAE's development and progress by noting that celebrating Emirati Women's Day is a tribute to the key Emirati values and culture that recognise women as essential partners in the country's comprehensive progress and advancement.
He went on to say that His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and his wife, Sheikha Jawaher bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, have been vital in elevating the status of women in the Emirate of Sharjah.
On this occasion, the department recognised a number of retired women and exceptional working women in Sharjah's municipal sector.
