Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Department of Municipalities Affairs (SDMA), headed by Dr. Sulaiman Sarhan Al Zaabi, held a coordination meeting in the city of Kalba, with the participation of various government departments in the cities of the Eastern Region, to discuss the effects of the floods and learn about the course of action and recovery plans in the affected areas.
Dr. Al Zaabi affirmed the keenness of the Government of Sharjah and its unlimited support for the areas affected by the recent torrential rains, which affected the city of Kalba, Wadi Al Helou, Shis and Al Nahwa areas of Khorfakkan.

This came on the sidelines of a coordination meeting held by the department in Kalba, headed by Al Zaabi, in the presence of a crowd of officials from various government departments and institutions in the eastern region.

The attendees praised the concerted efforts of the various institutions of the Sharjah government, and the federal support to control the situation, stressing that the climatic situation and the resulting floods were unprecedented, which the work teams faced with courage and perseverance aimed primarily at securing lives and achieving security and safety for the residents of the affected areas.

The head of the Municipal Affairs Department pointed out that the wise leadership and the Government of Sharjah are closely following the situation in the city of Kalba and the rest of the regions, noting the directives of the municipalities to form technical committees to assess the damages related to the infrastructure of housing and property brought about by the torrential rains, and to provide the necessary technical reports.

Al Zaabi confirmed that the municipality’s work teams and partners were keen first to clean the streets and main roads to facilitate traffic and facilitate exit and entry, noting that work is still ongoing in the city of Kalba in particular, which still has accumulations of water in some old areas in particular.

He praised the public's patience, positivity and cooperation with the relevant institutions that spared no effort since the first moments in facing unprecedented torrential rains, and are working around the clock to restore the city to its familiar civilised appearance, stressing that the positive spirit is an urgent necessity imposed by such crises, especially in cases of natural disasters.
