Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Department of Municipal Affairs (SDMA), in collaboration with Sharjah City Municipality and Al Batayeh Municipality, organised an initiative for afforestation of the Al Munthar Reserve in the Al Batayeh area, in order to increase social responsibility in preserving the desert environment and biodiversity, and to encourage agriculture to improve the cultural and aesthetic appearance of the area.
Dr. Sulaiman bin Sarhan Al Zaabi, Head of the Department of Municipal Affairs, confirmed that this initiative reflects the Department of Municipal Affairs' and strategic partners' drive to pursue His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah’s visions and directives aimed at protecting and preserving environmental diversity and raising community awareness. And, there is a lot of interest in agriculture, which is a priority for municipal work because of its aesthetic, psychological, and environmental components, as the emirate has a lot of greenery, trees, bushes, and flowers.

Al Zaabi also praised the Sharjah Municipality and Al-Batayeh Municipality for their cooperative efforts in carrying out this programme.

The Director General of Sharjah Municipality, Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, said that Sharjah Municipality puts a lot of value on agriculture and is keen to carry out agricultural projects all year to carry out the Ruler of Sharjah's visions and orders.

Al Batayeh Municipality Director Abdullah Sultan bin Saluma Al Ketbi praised the Municipal Affairs Department and Sharjah Municipality for their efforts to contribute to the success of this initiative, increase the number of trees in the Al Munthar Reserve, and strengthen ongoing cooperation with Al Batayeh Municipality.
