Sharjah24: Dr. Abdul-Ghani Rashid Al-Alami, Head of the Research Center for Sustainable Energy and Energy Systems at the University of Sharjah (UoS), confirmed that Water, Energy and Climate Change Conference deals with the current topics at the present time, which are the availability of potable water and renewable energy and how to use it and linking the issue of renewable energy to water, as desalination of non-potable water needs to high energy and thus the discussion of water desalination using renewable energy and thus reduce the level of carbon emissions harmful to the environment.
Dr. Abdul-Ghani Rashid Al-Alami said in exclusive statements to "Sharjah 24", that the conference launched via Zoom Programme, seeks to reduce carbon emissions in the water desalination system because the emission has become a threatening cause of climate change, and that clean, potable and high-quality water is secured by using renewable energy. The water sources are few and thus desalination of sea water or the available wells is addressed.
The head of the Sustainable Energy and Energy Systems Research Center added that the University of Sharjah is conducting qualitative research on the use of renewable energy for desalination, and this is done in communication with a large number of researchers from around the world, and the University of Sharjah aims to benefit all desalination-based entities to maintain natural climate system.
