The programme opened with a Scenography Workshop led by Iraqi scenographer Dr Ali Al Sudani, introducing participants to the fundamentals of theatrical scenography, the role of the scenographer, and the profession's close collaboration with the director in shaping theatrical productions and audience perception.
Using visual presentations, Dr Al Sudani analysed a range of scenographic models, highlighting their design, materials and artistic approaches ahead of practical training sessions that will conclude with final participant projects. The workshop, which runs daily until 2 August, focuses on developing creative relationships between stage elements rather than increasing their quantity, enabling participants to produce diverse visual concepts using the same materials through different approaches to spatial design, stage composition and actor movement.
Al Sudani added that participants will work in small teams to interpret theatrical texts visually and transform them into spatial concepts and design plans, while exploring multiple scenographic solutions using simple, limited resources.
