Performances were attended by more than 1,200 students representing 18 schools, in addition to more than 600 members of the public. This initiative reflects their commitment to instilling the principles of sustainability and enhancing community awareness of the importance of conserving energy and water, while also promoting optimal resource use in a creative way.
Her Excellency Salha Gabash, Head of the Cultural Office of the Sharjah Family and Community Council and author of the play, explained that the performances were highly successful in raising awareness among school students and the general public. The play was presented in a way that appealed to diverse audiences and addressed one of the most important issues facing society: raising awareness about conserving energy and water. She pointed out that the play serves as a model for activating the role of theatre in raising awareness about this vital issue. Theatre is a soft power that relies on events reflecting the reality we live in and hope to improve, all within a framework of imagination, which is indispensable to artistic works. Theatre delivers its message through words and music, employing artistic tools that attract audiences, enhance their culture and knowledge, and support their aspirations and participation in achieving sustainable development.
Gabash added that the core of the play, "We Benefit from Rationalisation," relies on musical segments and dramatic scenes presented in an indirect artistic style to raise awareness among the audience, particularly regarding the proper use of energy without waste or harm to the environment.
Rashid Al Marzouqi, Director of Media and Communication at SEWA, explained that the authority continues to adopt innovative ideas, partnerships, and community engagement, utilising all forms of communication, arts, technology, and their applications to enhance awareness among various segments of society. He pointed out that the play "We Benefit from Rationalisation" addressed several themes, including promoting smart services and encouraging their use, as well as establishing best practices in our daily lives regarding electricity, water, and gas, encouraging responsibility for preserving the rights of future generations to natural resources, and raising awareness about the issue of rationalising energy and water consumption and the uses of natural gas.
Al Marzouqi added that SEWA is working to support and promote the concept of optimal energy and water use across various sectors. SEWA strives to reach diverse segments of society through various initiatives, campaigns, and activities to reinforce the concept of optimal consumption and encourage community members to change their behavior regarding energy and water to preserve our natural resources and ensure a brighter future for generations to come.
Saif Al Naqbi, Head of the Education and Awareness Department at SEWA, praised the keen interest and participation of a large number of schools in attending the theatrical performances specifically designed for school students. Two full performances were dedicated to school students only during the morning, while the third performance, open to the general public, saw a large turnout from various segments of society who enjoyed and benefited from the awareness and guidance messages on the importance of optimal energy and water use. These messages were presented within the theatrical performances, which were of a high standard under the supervision of the Family Theatre Team at the Cultural Office of the Sharjah Family and Community Council.
