Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) continues its efforts in installing smart water meters. The authority has completed the installation of 6,121 smart meters for new connection requests and replaced 70,445 meters from the beginning of 2025 until the end of July 2025. The total number of smart meters installed or replaced in the city of Sharjah has reached 267,552.

This initiative is part of the authority’s strategy aimed at enhancing the efficiency of water resource management, promoting digital transformation, and providing the best services to subscribers. Smart meters offer high accuracy compared to traditional meters and allow precise monitoring of water consumption across different areas, contributing to sustainable resource management.

Commitment to digital transformation

Engineer Faisal Al Serkal, Director of the Water Department at SEWA, confirmed that the authority implements all its projects and initiatives in line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to provide advanced infrastructure, embrace digital transformation, and utilise smart systems.

The smart water meter installation project is one of the initiatives launched by the authority as part of its efforts to achieve digital transformation, enhance operational efficiency, and reduce water loss.

Ongoing replacement and service excellence

He added that the continued installation of smart water meters reflects the authority’s commitment to providing the best services to citizens and residents and to building a sustainable future in the Emirate of Sharjah. The replacement of mechanical water meters with smart meters continues across various areas and suburbs according to a planned schedule.
