The play aims to raise community awareness of the importance of rationalising energy and water consumption, while promoting creative ways to utilise resources optimally.
Her Excellency Salha Ghabish, Head of the Cultural Office at the Sharjah Family and Community Council and author of the play, explained that the play cooperates with various entities to raise and discuss the most important issues facing society, targeting different segments and groups of society. One of the most important issues is raising awareness about rationalising energy and water consumption. Therefore, we are working with SEWA to activate the role of theatre in raising awareness about this vital issue. Theatre is a soft power that relies on events that reflect the reality we live in and hope to improve. This is done within a framework of imagination, which is indispensable for artistic works. It conveys its message through words and music, along with artistic tools that attract audiences, enhance their culture and knowledge, and support their ambition and participation in achieving sustainable development.
Ghabish added that the fundamental pillar of the theatrical work, "By Rationalisation We Benefit," relies on lyrical segments and dramatic scenes in an indirect artistic style to raise audience awareness, particularly regarding the proper use of energy without waste and harming the environment.
Rashid Al Marzouqi, Director of the Media and Communications Department at SEWA, explained that the Authority seeks to develop ideas, partnerships, and community outreach, utilising all forms of communication, arts, and technology and their applications to raise awareness among various segments of society.
Al Marzouqi pointed out that presenting the play "By Rationalisation We Benefit" is a distinguished step that reflects our commitment to encouraging creativity and excellence. It serves as a model for cooperation between institutions in supporting vital issues, raising awareness of best practices in our daily lives, and encouraging responsibility to preserve the rights of future generations to natural resources. It is also an important program that leverages the role of theatre to raise awareness about the issue of rationalising energy and water consumption and the use of natural gas.
Al Marzouqi added that SEWA works to support and promote the concept of optimal use of energy and water across various sectors. We work to reach various segments of society through various initiatives, campaigns, and activities to promote the concept of optimal consumption and encourage community members to change their behaviour regarding energy and water, to preserve our natural resources, and ensure a brighter future for future generations. The musical play "By Rationalisation We Benefit" is one of the important programs developed by the Authority to reach out to various segments of society and positively influence their behaviour toward energy and water use.
Saif Al Naqbi, Head of the Education and Awareness Department at SEWA, explained that the Authority was keen to activate the role of theater as an effective tool in conveying awareness and guidance messages about the importance of optimal use of energy and water. Three performances of the play will be presented, targeting school students and the general public.
Al Naqbi emphasised that the concept of rationalising energy and water consumption is not limited to the amount of money saved, but rather extends to include environmental protection and reducing pollution in light of the global warming phenomenon, which has significantly impacted the global climate.
Al Naqbi added that rationalizing electricity and water consumption is no longer solely an individual responsibility, but has become a collective responsibility due to the increase in demand and the spread of certain incorrect behaviours that lead to increased water and energy consumption. This play will be performed under the supervision of the Family Theatre Team at the Cultural Office of the Sharjah Family and Community Council.
