The mosques that received this honor are the Ahmed bin Hanbal Mosque in Al Jazzat, Al Sahaba Mosque in Samnan, and the Martyr Sami Al Marzouqi Mosque in Al Khuzamia. This recognition is a testament to their dedication to creating welcoming and accessible spaces for elderly individuals and people with special needs.
These mosques feature easy-to-navigate layouts, clear signs, and comfortable areas for prayer and washing, ensuring that everyone can move freely and safely. They also meet important safety standards, making them inclusive environments for all community members.
This award supports the broader "Sharjah Age-Friendly City" initiative, endorsed by the World Health Organization. The Sharjah Social Services Department aims to include age-friendly features in any new mosques built in the region, working alongside relevant authorities to make sure everyone can worship comfortably and peacefully.
Abdullah Khalifa Yarouf Al Subousi, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Islamic Affairs, highlighted that receiving this title showcases the hard work of the department’s teams to enhance the quality of life in mosques. It reflects the leadership of Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who prioritizes both mosques and the elderly.
He also noted that mosques serve not only as places of worship but as community hubs that promote harmony and support. This achievement is seen as a step towards ongoing improvements in Sharjah, helping it to become a shining example of how communities can care for everyone. Plans are in place to expand this initiative to include even more mosques in the future.
