Sharjah 24: The Department of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah has inaugurated Al Salsabil Mosque in the Al Qutaina 1 district, expanding the emirate's religious infrastructure to keep pace with one of its fastest-growing residential areas.

The opening was attended by His Excellency Adviser Dr Issa Seif Ahmed bin Hanzal, Executive Council Member of the Emirate of Sharjah and Chairman of the Department of Islamic Affairs, alongside a number of senior officials.
Fatimid design
Inspired by the Fatimid Islamic architectural tradition, Al Salsabil Mosque offers a fusion of the heritage of classical Islamic design with contemporary aesthetic sensibilities. The mosque can accommodate up to 400 worshippers, including a dedicated women’s prayer hall with capacity for 50. It is fully equipped with washrooms and car parking facilities as well as residential quarters for the imam.
At its apex is a minaret over 30 metres tall, lending the building an imposing presence on the skyline and cementing its status as a landmark in the Muhadhab suburb. Quality levels throughout the construction were high, and safety and sustainability requirements were integrated into the design from the outset instead of being an add-on.
Charity and contractors recognized at ceremony
Bait Al Sharjah Charity was honoured at the ceremony for funding the mosque's construction. The chairman also recognised the project's consultants and contractors, who delivered the building on time and to specification.
Mosques as anchors of community life
Dr Salem Al Doobi, Director of the Religious Guidance Department, delivered a sermon on the role mosques play in the life of a community—not merely as places of prayer, but as anchors of social cohesion, carriers of Islamic identity, and spaces where families and neighbourhoods are quietly held together.
For the Department of Islamic Affairs, Al Salsabil is one mosque among many it is bringing to completion across Sharjah—each one, in its view, as much a civic asset as a place of worship.
