Sharjah 24: Al Hamriyah Municipality held an extensive coordination meeting at its headquarters, bringing together representatives from Al Hamriyah Fishing Cooperative Society, the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority, and several officials from the municipality’s administrative and technical departments.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss mechanisms for organising operations within the facilities of the Fishermen’s Village, and to enhance integration among relevant entities in order to better serve local professionals working in the fishing sector. This comes as part of the municipality’s ongoing efforts to improve services provided to fishermen in Al Hamriyah area, develop the infrastructure of fishing facilities, and advance the overall standards within this vital sector.

Meeting Chaired by Legal Affairs Head

The meeting held, on Monday, at the municipality’s premises, was chaired by Ammar Ali Al Muhairi, Director of the Legal Affairs Department at Al Hamriyah Municipality. In attendance were Salah Obaid Al Muhairi, representing Al Hamriyah Fishing Cooperative Society; Mohammed Al Naqbi and Yasser Mubarak, representatives from the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority; along with a group of administrative and technical officials from the municipality.

The participants discussed a series of development initiatives and regulatory proposals aimed at enhancing the efficiency of service facilities at the Fishermen’s Village, improving the working environment for fishermen, optimising the use of designated marine berths for fishing boats, and determining fair allocation mechanisms in collaboration with the Fishing Cooperative Society – all with a view to promoting sustainability and preserving the maritime heritage.

Emphasis on Coordination and Sustainability

Participants underscored the importance of ongoing coordination and integrated efforts among all concerned parties, stressing the pivotal role this plays in organising fishing facilities and providing a safe and sustainable environment for fishermen to carry out their work efficiently and comfortably. They affirmed the necessity of continued constructive collaboration between Al Hamriyah Municipality, the Fishing Cooperative Society, and the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority, as this contributes to the development and protection of the fishing sector – a fundamental part of Al Hamriyah’s cultural, social, and economic heritage, and a cornerstone of its enduring national identity.

Strategic Vision and Institutional Partnerships

Ammar Ali Al Muhairi explained that the meeting comes in response to the directives of His Excellency Mubarak Rashid Al Shamsi, Director of Al Hamriyah Municipality, and in line with the municipality’s strategic vision aimed at strengthening institutional partnerships with all stakeholders in the fishing sector – particularly Al Hamriyah Fishing Cooperative Society and the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority. The municipality is working within structured plans to support fishermen by providing the best services and facilities that enable them to practise their profession and ensure their professional stability.

Focus on Technical Support and Fair Allocation

Al Muhairi noted that the meeting discussed mechanisms for providing sustainable technical and logistical support to fishermen within the Fishermen’s Village. It also addressed ways to improve the processes related to the allocation of marine berths, ensuring fairness and alignment with the diverse needs of fishermen. In addition, the meeting explored methods to enhance the quality of services linked to maintenance and organisation, and reviewed innovative proposals that could streamline procedures and enhance the operational environment of the fishing sector.

Key Recommendations and Follow-Up

Al Muhairi concluded by stating that the meeting resulted in a set of important recommendations that will be followed up with the relevant authorities. These steps fall within a comprehensive framework that considers the unique nature of fishermen’s work and ensures the implementation of development plans connected to this sector. It reflects Al Hamriyah Municipality’s commitment to supporting the fishing community, fulfilling their aspirations, and preserving the profession of fishing as a living maritime legacy that embodies the identity of Al Hamriyah and its deep-rooted history intertwined with the sea and the local environment.
