Sharjah24: As part of its ongoing efforts to promote community awareness among younger generations, Hamriyah Municipality launched a specialised workshop titled “The Junior Inspector”. The initiative was held in collaboration with Hamriyah Cultural and Sports Club as part of its strategic participation in the Sharjah Summer Sports – Our Holiday is Different programme.

Hands-on learning in food safety Held yesterday, the workshop offered an engaging educational model designed to introduce children and youth to the basics of food safety through a blend of theory and practical application. It drew strong participation from summer programme attendees, who showed great interest in learning about healthy food practices and the role of inspectors in community protection.

Workshop content and key lessons The workshop focused on defining the role and objectives of food inspection, tools used in field inspections, and the differences between various types of municipal inspections. It also included a detailed explanation of how to read nutrition labels, helping to instil sound consumer awareness from an early age.

Real-life field experience To reinforce the practical aspect, the session concluded with a field visit led by inspectors from Hamriyah Municipality’s Public Health Department. Participants accompanied the inspectors on a simulated food inspection, gaining hands-on insight into real procedures and the skills needed in the field.

Nurturing future-aware citizens Mohammed Sultan bin Harib Al Muhairi, Head of the Public Health Department at Hamriyah Municipality, said the workshop is part of a broader effort to instil food safety awareness from an early age. He emphasised that educating youth in these areas supports a strategic vision of raising a generation that is conscious of its role in safeguarding both personal and public health.

Al Muhairi added that the workshop goes beyond awareness, aiming to develop participants’ skills and self-confidence by involving them in practical experiences that reflect active citizenship. He also noted that involving children in such initiatives boosts their nutritional awareness and prepares them to become ambassadors of health within their families and schools.

Investing in future generations This initiative stems from Hamriyah Municipality’s vision of investing in the awareness of future generations by using educational programmes as tools for preparing them for the future. The Junior Inspector workshop is expected to have a lasting impact by helping build a generation that is more conscious about food safety, community responsibility, and public service.
