Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Department of Town Planning and Survey (SDTPS) has launched its summer training programme, "Future Urban Competencies," at its headquarters in Sharjah City to support the next generation and develop their capabilities. The program is aimed at secondary school students from Year 9 to Year 12 and runs for ten days, from Monday, July 14 to Thursday, July 24, 2025.

Introducing institutional work

The programme seeks to enhance students’ skills and familiarise them with institutional work through specialised workshops and field visits related to urban planning and sustainable development.

Empowering future talents

‘Future Urban Competencies’ represents a strategic initiative through which the department aims to empower students, discover their career interests, and prepare a well-informed generation capable of contributing meaningfully to Sharjah’s comprehensive development. It aligns with the highest standards of urban planning and sustainable development.

Interactive start with expert-led sessions

The first day featured a series of lectures and hands-on training sessions delivered by a group of engineers and specialists from various departments, including Survey, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Finance, Human Resources, Legal Affairs, Building Permits, and Urban Appearance Management.

Immersive practical learning environment

The programme activities are organised within an interactive and stimulating environment, aimed at enhancing students’ skills and deepening their understanding of the fields of engineering and planning. It also introduces them to the complementary roles played by support departments, reinforcing their awareness of how government entities collectively contribute to Sharjah’s urban and civilised advancement.
