Eng. Hamad Juma Al Shamsi, Member of the Executive Council and Chairman of SDTPS, stated that these high-resolution satellite images are essential tools for collecting spatial information and updating metadata related to geographic plans. This supports greater accuracy and efficiency in planning tasks. He added that the project aligns with Sharjah Government’s vision of supporting digital transformation and fostering smart, sustainable cities based on precise data and continuous analysis of urban growth.
Eng. Ali Al Muhairi, Director of the Survey Department at SDTPS, highlighted that the partnership with the Federal Geographic Information Centre is a successful model of national cooperation in the field of geospatial data. He noted that the use of satellite technology plays a vital role in supporting sustainable development and improving quality of life across the emirate.
Al Muhairi also pointed out that the new satellite imagery will enable teams to continuously monitor urban expansion and housing developments without the need for frequent on-site field visits. This will save time and effort while supporting quicker and more accurate decision-making.
Eng. Fatima Juma, Director of the Geographic Information Systems Department at SDTPS, stated that the new imagery and data will be used to update the emirate’s base map and road network. It will also assist in monitoring the progress of development projects and detecting planning violations. Early detection will allow proactive corrections and ensure better compliance with approved urban planning standards and regulations.
