Al Hamriyah Municipality distributes fresh dates

Sharjah24: Al Hamriyah Municipality has organised its annual community initiative for the third consecutive year, aiming to distribute fresh dates from the palm trees of Al-Hamriyah to the residents and families of the area, including the elderly citizens and various government entities in the region. This initiative celebrates the season of goodness and joyfully welcomes the arrival of summer, enhancing the quality of life during the "Year of Community 2025."

Seasonal significance

The initiative coincides with the beginning of the fresh date season, which is one of the most anticipated seasonal markers for citizens and farmers alike, as it signifies the approach of "the summer season" and brings with it stories and memories, especially for the elderly who hold a rich cultural heritage related to agricultural seasons.

His Excellency Mubarak Rashid Al-Shamsi, Director of Al-Hamriyah Municipality, affirmed that this annual community initiative continues to resonate widely among the city's residents due to its deep connection to Emirati heritage, customs, and traditions, expressing joy in the signs of summer.

Al-Shamsi noted that the current agricultural season is a result of the municipality's ongoing efforts to care for palm trees and green spaces. He explained that the "Fresh Dates" initiative highlights the cultural, heritage, and economic significance of dates, as well as their contribution to food security, particularly the popular varieties found in Al-Hamriyah.

He pointed out that dates are one of the most important agricultural products that have always held a prominent place in every Emirati home, both historically and in modern times, due to their ability to be dried and stored for long periods. This makes dates an essential part of the food culture and a symbol of authentic Arab hospitality, consistently featured on Emirati dining tables. He emphasized Al-Hamriyah Municipality's commitment to preserving the esteemed status of dates within the rich Emirati heritage.
