The event was attended by His Excellency Abdullah Khalifa Al Sabousi, Chairman of the Department of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah, along with the Consuls of Pakistan, the Philippines, and India. Also present were the Head of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, the Vice President of the Indian Association in Sharjah, and Edwin Maria, Director of Special Projects at the Office of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah.
Among the distinguished attendees were His Excellency Brigadier General Ahmed Haji Al Sarkal, Director General of the General Department of Community Protection; His Excellency Brigadier General Ibrahim Musabah Al Ajel, Deputy Director General of Police Operations at the Sharjah Police; and His Excellency Brigadier General Omar Boualzoud, Director General of Criminal Security and Ports. Also in attendance were Dr. Essam Mohammed Al Zarouni, Executive Director of Medical Services at the Emirates Health Services Corporation; Mohammed Abdullah Al Zarouni, Director of the Ministry of Health and Prevention's Sharjah Office; and representatives of the companies responsible for executing the project.
The launch of the new facility forms part of Sharjah Police’s ongoing efforts to upgrade its services and enhance quality of life in line with top international scientific and professional standards. The embalming centre represents a significant addition to the network of specialised infrastructure, designed to simplify procedures for the families of the deceased. It offers a fully integrated service that meets the highest humanitarian and technical benchmarks.
Speaking at the inauguration, Brigadier General Naji Al Hammadi, Director of the Forensic Evidence and Laboratories Department, stated that the centre was established under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, with the support and supervision of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah. The project reflects the leadership’s commitment to offering humane, streamlined services that ease the burden on grieving families.
Al Hammadi explained that the embalming service, introduced by Sharjah Police in February 2024, aims to provide swift assistance to families of the deceased during difficult times. The entire procedure is completed within three working hours, once all requirements are fulfilled, by a highly trained team operating to the highest international standards for handling, preparing, and repatriating bodies.
Al Hammadi expressed his appreciation to members of the diplomatic corps for their constructive collaboration, and to the government entities and partner companies that helped bring the facility to life in accordance with the highest technical standards. He also commended Edwin Maria for his dedicated oversight of the project until its completion.
During the ceremony, Major General bin Amer honoured the attending consuls, the Head of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and all parties that contributed to the project’s success. Attendees were given a guided tour of the facility, where they explored key areas including the body preservation room and designated prayer spaces. The demonstration also outlined the embalming procedures and protocols, carried out with strict adherence to medical and ethical standards. Additionally, the tour showcased the specially equipped ambulance used for transporting the deceased to the airport for repatriation abroad.
