SRTA inaugurates smart traffic signals to enhance flow

Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of SRTA, stated that this initiative is part of a larger package of smart projects aimed at enhancing the emirate’s transport sector. By adopting the latest global technologies, SRTA seeks to elevate road infrastructure efficiency and provide innovative solutions that support sustainability and smart urban transformation. The “Green Traffic” system is a major advancement in traffic management, helping reduce wait times, ease congestion, and ensure safer pedestrian and vehicle movement. These improvements are achieved through smart systems that adapt to real-time changes in traffic patterns.

The smart traffic signals use advanced technologies, including sensors and detectors that monitor traffic volumes and adjust signal timings accordingly. This allows for smoother, more synchronised traffic, enabling vehicles to pass through multiple green lights without stopping, provided they maintain a speed between 40 to 50 km/h. The system not only reduces congestion—especially during peak hours—but also minimizes risks from uncontrolled pedestrian crossings.
