Sharjah24: In a special event blending the essence of the past with a vision for the future, the Sharjah Department of Public Works (SDPW) held its annual forum for 2025. This year’s gathering celebrated the 25th anniversary of the department's founding and marked the official launch of its new strategic plan, signaling a significant developmental phase in its institutional journey.

Attendance and ceremony highlights

The forum was attended by Engineer Ali Saeed bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Public Works, along with department managers, staff, and partners from the private sector. The event began with the UAE national anthem, followed by a welcoming speech that emphasised the significance of the occasion and the deep connection between the past and future of the department. A moving documentary showcased 25 years of engineering and institutional achievements.

 

Keynote address

In his speech, Ali Bin Shaheen expressed pride in this pivotal moment in the department's history, stating, "We celebrate not just 25 years of our establishment but a commendable national journey that began with limited resources and has transformed into a success story." He highlighted the department's growth from overseeing a few projects to executing over 200 annually, with budgets exceeding one billion dirhams.

 

Launch of the new strategic plan

The announcement of the new strategic plan was a key moment in the ceremony. Engineer Hind Nasser, Director of the Strategic Planning Center, discussed the plan's transformative approach to institutional work, emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation. She noted that the plan aims to enhance customer experience and institutional competitiveness.

 

Recognition of achievements

A significant portion of the forum was dedicated to honoring outstanding teams and individuals who contributed to this year's achievements. Graduates of the "Elite" leadership program and teams responsible for major projects were recognised. Special acknowledgment was given to supporting departments for their critical roles in enhancing service quality.

 

Closing remarks

The event concluded with expressions of gratitude to attendees, organisers, and sponsors, underscoring the importance of collaboration and collective effort in building a strong institutional legacy over the past 25 years.
