Sharjah24: As part of its ongoing mission to oversee the performance of government entities, the Education, Culture, Media and Youth Affairs Committee of the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) made a field visit to the Sharjah Archives. The visit formed part of the committee’s work plan for the second ordinary session of the Council’s eleventh legislative term, aiming to gain direct insight into the operational mechanisms of public institutions and reinforce the Council’s supervisory role.
Warm reception and senior-level engagement
The committee delegation was received on the morning of the visit by His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Authority, and His Excellency Salah Salem Al Mahmoud, Director General, along with several directors and specialists in archival work.

The delegation was led by Her Excellency Sheikha Ali Al Naqbi, Chairperson of the Committee, accompanied by members Kaltham Saif Al Tunaiji, H.E. Sheikha Khalfan Al Thunayn Al Naqbi, Moza Mu’dhed Bin Huwidan, and Yousef Mohammed Al Mazrouei. Also present were Huda Al Hammadi, Committee Secretary, and Dr Islam Al Shiwi, Media Expert at the Council.

A parliamentary partner in shaping governance
In his welcoming remarks, Sheikh Khalid praised the pivotal role of the SCC as an effective parliamentary body engaged in both legislative and oversight duties. He commended the Council’s constructive engagement with Sharjah’s institutions, aligning with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in strengthening collaboration between legislative and executive authorities to support the emirate’s comprehensive development across all sectors.

Showcasing achievements and strategic direction
The meeting included an in-depth presentation of the Authority’s strategic plan, highlighting key accomplishments and initiatives in collecting and preserving paper and digital documents. It also covered the Authority’s ongoing efforts to chronicle the history of Sharjah and its government entities, foster public awareness about the value of documentation, and cultivate a knowledge-based environment that reinforces national identity and safeguards institutional memory.

Committee praises vital national role
The Committee underlined the vital role played by the Documentation and Archives Authority in preserving national achievements and safeguarding Sharjah’s administrative and cultural legacy. It called for continued efforts and greater cooperation with other government bodies to build a comprehensive and effective archival framework.

Discussions on enhancing documentation systems
Committee members held productive discussions with senior Authority officials, presenting several proposals to support the development of documentary practices. Topics included improving classification, archiving, and digitisation processes in line with international best practices, aiming to elevate the efficiency of document management across institutions.

Recommendations and forward-looking collaboration
The visit concluded with an exchange of ideas and a number of constructive recommendations designed to enhance cooperation between the SCC and the Documentation Authority. These proposals aim to advance shared objectives, strengthen institutional partnerships, and serve the community by preserving the nation’s historical record and identity.

Commendation for archival excellence
Sheikha Ali Al Naqbi expressed her appreciation for the Authority’s dedication, praising the professionalism and precision with which its team manages archival responsibilities. She highlighted the Authority’s cultural and educational contributions, particularly through oral history programmes, mobile initiatives, and documentation campaigns, emphasising the importance of continued support for this vital institution.

Recognition of digital progress and innovation
Committee members also applauded the Authority’s efforts in expanding its digital infrastructure and adopting innovative approaches to electronic archiving and smart documentation. They noted the value of these projects in supporting education, culture, media, and scientific research, further strengthening Sharjah’s standing as a regional centre of knowledge, culture, and institutional documentation.

Chairman values council support
At the conclusion of the visit, Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi expressed his gratitude for the Council’s continued support and engagement, describing it as a key motivator for advancing the Authority’s performance. He reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to excellence in archival work, in line with the emirate’s leadership directives and Sharjah’s vision for distinguished government service.
