Ahead of Ramadan, the municipality carried out 190 inspection visits across various food establishments in Hamriyah, including supermarkets, grocery stores, restaurants, traditional kitchens, cafeterias, Sharjah Cooperative Society branches, and Al Hamriyah Free Zone. The campaign also extended to meat and fish markets, as well as fruit and vegetable shops at the Jubail Market in Hamriyah.
The campaign is part of a broader initiative to improve food safety measures during Ramadan by ensuring compliance with regulations related to food transport, storage, preparation, and display. A key focus is on assessing the quality of cooking oils used for frying to maintain high health and safety standards. The initiative aims to ensure that all food establishments in Al Hamriyah meet health and safety regulations and implement preventive measures to protect consumers.
His Excellency Mubarak Rashid Al Shamsi, Director of Al Hamriyah Municipality, emphasised that the campaign aligns with continuous development efforts to provide high-quality services that adhere to the highest safety standards. He noted that statistical analyses conducted by the Public Health Department’s Studies and Technical Quality Office confirmed the importance of monitoring frying oil quality, with inspections yielding positive results.
Al Shamsi highlighted that the municipality’s specialised departments and inspection teams are working to ensure food establishments meet the necessary standards for food preparation, transportation, storage, and sales. These measures aim to uphold food safety throughout Ramadan and ensure compliance with health and hygiene regulations among food vendors and their staff.
The municipality’s ongoing and upcoming campaigns during Ramadan focus on ensuring food safety standards, inspecting food storage and preparation methods, and verifying that handling procedures adhere to strict hygiene requirements. The initiative also prioritises high-demand food products during Ramadan, alongside continuous awareness efforts for the restaurant and food catering sectors.
Al Hamriyah Municipality’s public health teams have already begun implementing proactive measures ahead of Ramadan, launching intensive awareness campaigns targeting food vendors. These efforts will continue throughout the holy month, with further inspections and educational programmes across Hamriyah. Additionally, awareness sessions will be organised to educate the public on safe food shopping and other consumer-related topics during Ramadan.
