Sharjah24: Al Hamriyah Municipality launched its annual community initiative, “Tabasheer Al Rutab” (ripening of the first date palm fruits), for the fourth consecutive year. The initiative includes distributing dates from Al Hamriyah palms to residents of the region, families, and senior citizens, as well as to government agencies, bodies, and institutions in Al Hamriyah, to celebrate the date season and the harbingers of summer, and to enhance community cohesion and preserve authentic Emirati heritage.

The initiative coincides with the beginning of the wet season, which is regarded as one of the most significant agricultural and heritage seasons in the UAE. It carries connotations of goodness and giving and is linked to social and cultural memories rooted in the collective consciousness of society, especially among senior citizens who experienced the harvest seasons and whose lives were tied to the local agricultural heritage.

The initiative received interaction and approval from the public and beneficiaries, who praised the municipality’s continued implementation of this annual initiative, which has become a community station that many look forward to at the beginning of each wet season.

Reviving Emirati customs

His Excellency Mubarak Rashid Al Shamsi, Director of Al Hamriyah Municipality, confirmed that the “Tabasheer Al Rutab” initiative has become one of the annual community initiatives the municipality is keen to implement, given its humanitarian, heritage and societal dimensions. He noted that it strengthens communication with the public and revives Emirati customs associated with the seasons of goodness and giving.

Message of loyalty

Al Shamsi said that the initiative conveys a message of loyalty to our authentic national heritage and offers the people an opportunity to share in the joy of the wet season, which is part of the Emirati identity. It also reflects the municipality’s commitment to enhancing quality of life and consolidating societal values based on solidarity, communication and love among members of society.

He added that the current agricultural season was the result of the continuous efforts by municipal staff to care for palm trees and green spaces, stressing that dates have important nutritional, heritage and economic value and are considered one of the most prominent agricultural products linked to the history and authentic culture of the UAE.

Al Shamsi noted that Al Hamriyah Municipality continues to implement community initiatives that enhance national identity, preserve popular heritage, and foster intergenerational communication, in line with the Emirate of Sharjah’s trends of preserving heritage and promoting community cohesion.
