Monitoring violations
Colonel Mohammed Alay Al Naqbi, director of the Traffic and Patrols Department, reported that the police observed a congregation of vehicles last night in a certain area of the emirate, where drivers were participating in reckless and irresponsible driving behaviours.
These actions resulted in several violations, such as driving in a way that jeopardises lives; operating vehicles without number plates; hiding number plates; and using vehicles that create noise disturbances.
To address these adverse behaviours, he emphasised that they are subject to penalties under the Traffic and Road Law, which include fines of up to AED3,000, the accumulation of 23 traffic points, and a 90-day vehicle impoundment. The fee for releasing impounded vehicles may amount to AED 20,000.
Emphasis on road safety and community responsibility
Colonel Al-Naqbi emphasised that following traffic laws is essential for safeguarding lives and property. He observed that safe driving demonstrates consciousness of the significance of public safety, whereas reckless behaviour on the roads presents a considerable danger to road users.
Ongoing awareness campaigns
He additionally emphasised that Sharjah Police persist in their endeavours to improve traffic awareness via awareness campaigns and on-ground monitoring. He encouraged community members to collaborate and report any actions that jeopardised road safety, highlighting the importance of community partnerships in maintaining a safe traffic environment for everyone.
