The School Athletics Championship, organized by Sharjah Women’s Sports, has developed significantly over its four editions, promoting sports among girls in schools. This event is a great initiative that combines competition with a supportive sports environment focused on Olympic sports. So far, over 1,400 students have participated in these championships, highlighting the success of this program in encouraging a love for sports and building community involvement.
The tournament brings together students from three different age groups: 9-10 years, 11-12 years, and 13-14 years. To receive awards, participants must achieve a certain minimum score in each event. This requirement is designed to motivate schools to enhance their training and dedication throughout the year. The goal is to emphasize the value of striving for excellence in sports and the positive impact of physical activity on the overall development of students.
Edgar Chillon, Head of Technical Planning and Follow-up, stated, “These measurements are designed not only to enhance athletic performance but also to establish reliable benchmarks that reflect local physical characteristics. This allows for accurate comparisons that can effectively guide the systematic and thoughtful development of community sports.” The event features a thorough program of scientific measurements focused on analyzing and assessing the physical factors that influence the athletic performance of female students.
Jamea Aden is a highly respected coach and consultant for the Athletics Department at SWS. She is recognized worldwide for her skills in training athletes, particularly in helping them become top runners and Olympic champions.
The observation made indicates that the students exhibit exceptional physical capabilities, with measurements reflecting diverse and integrated patterns suitable for a variety of Olympic sports. This includes sports that focus on speed and strength, as well as those that require endurance and high coordination. Emphasizing sports within educational institutions may facilitate the comprehensive development of these capabilities, potentially leading to achievements in sports at both local and international levels.
The tournament is set to run until Thursday, January 16. It will wrap up with a ceremony to announce the winners and recognize the schools and coaches involved. This event aims to showcase the Emirate of Sharjah as a top destination for sports, particularly in support of women's sports in a lasting way.
