Sharjah 24: Sharjah's Punitive and Correctional Institution (SPCI) at the General Headquarters of Sharjah Police has announced that 16 inmates at the institution have converted to Islam during the first nine months of 2024, in partnership with the Dubai Centre for Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities.
Colonel Abdullah Rashid Alai Al-Naqbi, Acting Director of the Punitive and Correctional Institution, emphasised that the institution is committed to fostering a rehabilitative environment centred on care and guidance. He observed that these initiatives align with the institution's responsibility to prepare inmates both psychologically and socially, irrespective of their religions or beliefs, thereby fostering tolerance and enhancing cultural and religious understanding.

He stated that the primary objective is to positively reintegrate inmates into society after their sentences, assisting them in effectively and constructively resuming their lives. He noted that this approach aids in correcting inmates' behaviour, lowering recidivism rates, and assisting them in creating a brighter future for both themselves and society.

The inmates conveyed that their profound comprehension of the core principles of Islam and its values, which advocate for love, mercy, and tolerance, coupled with the compassion and support they experienced from the authorities, were pivotal in their choice to adopt Islam. The religious lectures given by specialised imams also emphasised their understanding of Islamic teachings, inspiring them to declare their faith.
