Sharjah 24: The UAE men's chess team triumphed over Egypt in the eighth round of the World Chess Olympiad, currently taking place in Budapest with 190 participating countries.
In this round, Salem Abdulrahman secured victory against Basem Amin on the first board, while Imran Al Hosani drew with Adham Fawzy. Ammar Al Sadrani won against Hamed Wafa, and Ibrahim Sultan shared points with Sameh Sadek.
With this result, the UAE team increased its score to 10 points, leading the rankings among Arab countries and competing for top positions in the second group classification.
The round was inaugurated by Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa bin Shakhbut Al Nahyan, President of the Asian Chess Federation, alongside UAE Ambassador to Hungary, Saud Al Shamsi. Notable attendees included Sheikh Khalid bin Humaid Al Qasimi, President of the Arab Chess Federation, and Taryam Matar, President of the UAE Chess Federation. This marks the first time the UAE national team has defeated Egypt in Olympic history.
