Sharjah 24: As part of the efforts by the Emirates Health Services Foundation to elevate the quality of services in its health facilities to the highest global standards, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah has undergone significant improvements during 2023 and 2024.
The ICU has been upgraded to meet the latest international standards, featuring advanced medical devices and equipment equipped with state-of-the-art technology used in treating emergency cases. This aligns with the foundation's strategy to enhance quality and safety systems and provide the best possible care for patients.

Afra Salem, Director of Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah, stated that these new updates represent a significant enhancement to the list of medical services at the hospital. They reflect the Emirates Health Services Foundation’s commitment to continuously improving its facilities, ensuring the highest level of patient care and boosting the efficiency and quality of medical performance. She praised the efforts that have positioned the ICU at the forefront of medical facilities in terms of high efficiency in handling complex cases and successfully managing critical conditions.

Dr. Reda Al-Sharif, Head of the ICU at Kuwait Hospital, explained that the unit performs precise tracheostomy procedures for more than 25 patients each month. The new improvements have contributed to reduced patient wait times, decreased blood transfusion needs, and shortened ICU stays. He also mentioned the establishment of a new and essential service for patients requiring plasma exchange, enhancing the immediate response to critical cases under the supervision of an ICU physician and the medical team around the clock.

The medical team in the ICU has successfully saved the lives of many patients suffering from severe illnesses, requiring their admission to the ICU and prolonged use of ventilators. The team has managed to innovate and adopt the latest practices to treat these cases effectively and minimize complications or setbacks, reflecting the hospital’s commitment to providing comprehensive and integrated healthcare with patient health and safety as a top priority.
