Sharjah24: Physicians at Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah, a subsidiary of the Emirates Healthcare Group, successfully saved the life of a female visitor of Asian nationality in her seventies after experiencing multiple cardiac arrests.
The septuagenarian had traveled to the Emirates to check on her daughter, who had suffered a severe traffic accident resulting in the amputation of her hand. Due to extreme distress, the woman experienced sudden cardiac arrest. She was promptly transported to the emergency department of Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah, where cardiac resuscitation was administered. Subsequently, medical examinations, including cardiac imaging, revealed acute heart attack, severe circulatory shock, and profound hypotension, necessitating swift intervention and provision of essential medical treatment to preserve her life.
Dr. Karim Mustafa, Consultant Cardiologist and Head of the Emergency Department at Kuwait Hospital, emphasised that the rapid response and decision-making to administer thrombolytics and transfer the patient to the catheterisation unit within two hours of symptom onset contributed significantly to saving her life. He noted that swift response across all Emirates Healthcare Group facilities is part of a comprehensive strategy prioritising patient care and mandates prompt management of stroke patients, leading to higher recovery rates and reduced disability.
Dr. Ahmed Khalid Alawi, from the Internal Medicine Department at Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah, explained that the patient's advanced age compounded the severity of her condition upon arrival at the hospital, as she experienced cardiac arrest multiple times. Successful cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed, along with thrombolytic therapy and initiation of mechanical ventilation, before transferring her to the intensive care unit, where she began to recover the following day, exhibiting responses such as hand movement and eye opening. Subsequently, she was weaned off mechanical ventilation upon regaining consciousness and transferred to the internal medicine department for further care.
